SCIENCE STUDENTS ATTEND VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP

On May 29, 2020, 8th grade students at Newport’s Thompson Middle School tuned in to a webinar aboard SSV Oliver Hazard Perry. Along with Dan O’Connor, our program director, and our crew Miranda, Eric, and Jackson, students learned about about simple machines and mechanical advantage as the crew used a pulley system to lift and transfer a ship’s liferaft from the deck to the dock. Students were also treated to a virtual tour of the ship, including the ship’s engine room.
