John O’Keeffe is Head of Marine Affairs for Orsted Offshore North America, responsible for working with a range of maritime stakeholders including the USCG, commercial shipping and fishing industries. Marine Affairs acts as the primary liaison during all phases of Orsted projects, from development through operations and ultimately decommissioning. John is an accomplished professional mariner, having sailed worldwide for over 15 years as a deck officer, teacher and captain, including at Sea Education Association (SEA), and the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS). He joined the offshore wind industry at Deepwater Wind in early 2016. John previously served as initial manager of Operations and Maintenance for the Block Island Wind Farm, guiding the nation’s first offshore wind farm from construction to successful operation. He earned his B.S. in Environmental Studies from Southern Vermont College, graduate degree from University of Rhode Island’s Marine Affairs program, and most recently a certificate from Yale SOM for Global Business and Politics. John is an 8-year veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a sergeant in armored reconnaissance. John was awarded “2019 Maritime Person of the Year” by the Propeller Club of Narragansett Bay chapter for his work in promoting the U.S. maritime industry and offshore wind.
