Position: Able Bodied Seaman
Certifications: AB, STCW, 100 Ton Captain Sail Endorsement
When did you first fall in love with sailing? When I moved to Key West, there are so many beautiful schooners that spend their winter season in the beautiful island I call home. Everyday I would look at how beautiful they were, I started in water sports in the Conch Republic and after a few years of exploring that industry I moved onto daysail schooners and my love for it definitely spiraled out of control and I haven't lived on land in years now!
What's the best part of your job? The best part of my job is keeping the art of traditionally rigged tall ship sailing alive! Without these antiquated sailing ships, the art we practice from the very important age of sail would disappear just like the stage coach. I think it's a beautiful representation of classic seamanship and the age of discovery.
Favorite place you've sailed to: I've sailed through almost all 700 islands of the Bahamas. The islands of Eleuthera, Bahamas are so beautiful and I love the seclusion of each island. Fortunately, I don't think I've sailed my favorite place yet! I have so many dreams to sail the world by myself I think my best adventures are to come.
What's your definition of a salad? Botany.
More about Cara: I was once an aspiring dolphin trainer when I first moved to the Keys, but after getting into water sports my favorite things to do outside of sailing was working with jet skis, parasailing, snorkeling and paddleboarding. I love free diving and my goal is to be able to free dive to 100 feet (comfortably) like so many of my friends can. Florida is one of the best places in the whole world and I'm out to prove the "Florida Man" page isn't totally right, FLORIDIANS AREN'T THAT BAD! Oh, and Moana is my favorite movie ever.
