Updates from the OHPRI Crew
Oliver Hazard Perry Status Update
In mid-May, the ship had a plumbing issue resulting in a large volume of water entering the engine compartment. With the assistance of vendors, volunteers, and crew, the issue was managed per the appropriate agencies and authorities. Repairs are underway, and we anticipate a return to public programming in August. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
OHPRI on the Ten Year Commissioning of SSV Oliver Hazard Perry
Ten years ago, SSV Oliver Hazard Perry had its debut summer sailing to New London, CT and Portland, ME. Since then, she has become much more than a sail training vessel. OHPRI is a hub for community building and education. We support a resilient Rhode Island through empowering its citizens to utilize their own backyard: the ocean. The sea can be more than a place we live near and play in; it can provide life changing personal and professional opportunities.Â
Our organization’s vessel the OHP serves as a platform for place based learning in STEAM, ocean literacy and workforce development. This year we will continue to meet students where they are both physically and academically. Our maritime professionals visit students in schools, at events, and at their home ports for programs onboard, dockside and in the classroom. Thanks to your support, we look forward to many years to come.
