Volunteers are at the heart of Oliver Hazard Perry's mission and an integral part of our ship’s community. By volunteering, you contribute towards the success of our on-board programs and enable us to expand our outreach within Rhode Island, New England, and beyond. Volunteers at Oliver Hazard Perry perform a wide variety of tasks, and every volunteer day is new and different. You may be asked to lead a tour below decks, talk about the ship’s history to a group of schoolchildren, varnish railings, help the engineer in the engine room, participate in a woodworking project, or help with rigging and sails. No matter your background, we are excited to welcome you to become a part of our volunteer corps.
WINTER 2019-2020 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Oliver Hazard Perry is docked at Bowen’s Wharf, Newport, for the winter months of 2019-2020. Our volunteer program, scheduled for Saturdays throughout the winter until the end of April 2020, will focus on familiarizing and training volunteers on ship maintenance, safety, and guiding on-board tours of the vessel. Our goal is to prepare the ship for an exciting 2020 sailing season.
Sailing opportunities will be available beginning in May 2020 for continuing volunteers who have completed at least 40 hours of training and program experience.
Sign ups for Saturday volunteer days in February and March are ongoing now. Click the button below to sign up!
